The University of St Andrews upgrade to SiteManager v.6.0.0014 (from 5.3.0017), by TerminalFOUR, went relatively smoothly today, and initial impressions are good.
Two features of version six that are likely to become immediately popular are:
- When you are previewing a section that is published to only one channel: you are taken there immediately; there is no longer the long page of channels from which you need to select one.
- Preview itself is noticeably faster.
Tales from the upgrade
We had an issue with Tomcat not being able to be restarted after the upgrade. We’d filled /usr/local to about 85% and there wasn’t enough headroom to get it going again. That was clearly our fault, and a quick delete with PuTTY later all systems were go.
The only other issue we had was with a couple of smaller sites/channels publishing out with the URL for the media pointing to http://localhost/media/. This turned out to be caused by the Base HRef (for preview) field in the Channels window being set to http://localhost. Deleting these and republishing sorted things.
But I’m now curious to learn what Base HRef does with relation to Micro Sites, which is what the tooltip informs that it’s about.
Testing will obviously continue, but congratulations to TerminalFOUR for yet another (relatively) trouble-free upgrade.
